Coffee creamer, brown sugar, and powder laundry detergent... a few things I don't use often. Now they're solid, rock hard and basically useless. Throw 'em out and get to the store, or is there a way to restore these things to a useable state?
Thanks for any ideas!

Re: Solidified powder products
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 1:22 PMput some saltines, soda crackers, or a slice of bread in w/ the brown sugar --- I know that works to restore it to its former glory. I don't know if the same works for the creamer or detergent, but it's worth a try.

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 2:48 PMcan't you still use them? I mean really, why throw them out when all you need to do is chip some out and add it to the liquid it may already go with (ie water with the detergent, perhaps melted butter with the sugar, coffee with the creamer)

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 9:21 AMPlace about the amount you want to use in a glass bowl in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. This should soften it up for use;adjust time in microwave as necessary. If you can't chip away the amount you want...just put the entire package in the micro!!!!

Tue, April 29, 2008 - 4:51 PMIve done a slice of bread in rock hard brown sugar. It works super well. So I second that. Never tried it with the other ones though. Maybe try the bread with the creamer too?

Re: Solidified powder products
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 5:02 PMI had another thought about the detergent: if the bread trick doesn't work, try a cheese--or better yet--a spice grater. That should at least get it back to powdery consistency.
I seem to remember when I had some older detergent it didn't dissolve as well as it should have in cold/warm water. I imagine if you heated up a cup or so of water and dissolved the powder in that before pouring it into the laundry that'd work too. The lame thing about the powder not dissolving was when you'd pull your clothes out there'd be flakes of soap still stuck to your clothes, and it took a lot of extra rinsing to get it out. -

Re: Solidified powder products
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 4:20 PMDO NOT MICROWAVE THE CREAMER! Sorry for yelling, but powdered creamer is highly flammable. You could wind up with a huge fire in your micro. If you don't believe me try this in a safe place outdoors away from flammables; shake powdered creamer toward the ground, light it on fire, and watch how crazy it ignites.
